Volvo Group celebrates 80th anniversary of its remanufacturing business.

As a leader in sustainable transportation solutions, the Volvo Group celebrates its 80th anniversary of remanufacturing this year. This business, which provides remanufacturing services for on-road vehicles, off-road equipment, and marine equipment, began in Köping, Sweden in 1945 and is now supported by production facilities in Middletown, Pennsylvania, and Charlotte, North Carolina, in North America.

The Volvo Group's remanufacturing services cover parts for multiple brands, including Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, Volvo Penta, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Buses, and Prevost. Stephen Roy, President of Volvo Group North America, stated, "Remanufacturing has been a cornerstone of the Volvo Group's sustainability journey since producing its first refurbished gearbox in 1945. This initiative not only minimizes waste and significantly reduces environmental impact but also provides customers with reliable, affordable Volvo original equipment standard parts. We are proud to have two important U.S. production sites supporting this significant endeavor." Every remanufactured part undergoes rigorous testing, evaluation, and remanufacturing processes to ensure full compliance with stringent specifications. The specific process includes electromagnetic crack detection, precision machining, professional repair and welding, calibration using certified gauges, and dynamic testing, all performed by certified technicians. Furthermore, all remanufactured parts come with a full warranty covering parts and related damage; if installed by an authorized dealer, a full labor warranty is also available.

Remanufacturing also helps the Volvo Group achieve its carbon footprint reduction goals. Compared to new product production, remanufacturing reduces raw material consumption by up to 85% and energy consumption by 80%.

Today, Volvo boasts the industry's most extensive inventory of remanufactured products, covering more than ten core product categories, including engines, transmissions, coolant pumps, cylinder heads, and turbochargers. In the North American market, these remanufactured products are compatible with Volvo Trucks, Mack Trucks, Volvo Penta, Volvo Construction Equipment, Volvo Buses, and Prevost brands.

Sherman Williams, Director of Remanufacturing Product Development for Volvo Group North America, stated, “Our commitment to remanufacturing stems not only from commercial considerations but also from a sense of responsibility. We are honored to provide solutions that meet our customers' practical needs and align with their values. By choosing remanufactured parts, our customers not only contribute positively to environmental protection but also help build a more sustainable future.”
